Old Vine – Dry Farmed – Own Rooted

Murto Vineyard

In the Heart of the Dundee Hills

We make our home on the historic Murto Vineyard, located in the heart of the Dundee Hills. Murto is the epitome of old school Oregon wine-growing. It has been an important fruit source to many top wineries including Belle Pente, Winderlea, and White Rose. Today the we work with a small roster of quality driven winery partners including Antica Terra, Authentique, and Woodshed Wine Company. Katherine Cole called it one of Oregon’s “Grand Cru” vineyards.  It sits relatively high in the Dundee Hills between 700-800 feet elevation. It is planted mostly to own-rooted Pommard clone Pinot Noir. It has been dry-farmed since the beginning.

This historic vineyard was originally planted by Jim McDaniel in 1978 under the guidance of Oregon winemaking pioneers Dick Erath and Jim Maresh. These were very early days for the burgeoning Oregon wine industry and only 13 years after David Lett planted the first vines in the Willamette Valley. Mike and Robin Murto purchased the vineyard in 1991 and cared for it lovingly for the next 27 years. In 2018, our family purchased this historic vineyard with the intention of nurturing it for the next 40 years and beyond.
